In addition to weekly lessons, children are engaged and excited about science through special events and activities.  We hold an annual Science Week, incorporating fun and unusual experiments.  During Science Week and throughout the year, children enjoy special visits from experts in different aspects of Science.  As well as this, children’s Science work is supported and enriched through educational visits to local places and museums..

 

Science Club 2022-2023

Our science club commenced at the start of September. Children are excited and enthusiastic about all of the experiments this coming year.

British Science Week- 6th -15th march 2020

Culham Science Centre 

We were very lucky to have have Culham Science Centre for Fusion Energy come and visit us for British Science Week. We were given a fantastic assembly about the difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. We were shown how it all works by different experiments. The children and staff enjoyed the assembly and came away quite excited by the new term

Science Oxford came to visit Year 3

Y3 thoroughly enjoyed working scientifically with Ian Snell from Science Oxford on Monday 18th November. The children engaged in a number of activities exploring forces and making their own Rocket Cars even testing them out to see how far they'd travel along the playground.'

Paws, Claws and Whiskers

Year 1 finished their topic and Science learning with a visit from a vet.  We asked lots of questions about the role of a vet and what the most unusual animal the vet had to look after. The children enjoyed dressing up as a vet and injecting the dog to make it feel better. 

The school was awarded the  Primary Science Quality Mark in September 2020. 

This has raised the profile of science across the school with staff and pupils.

Whole SCHOOL SCIENCE HOMEWORK

Year 1 had a visitor.....

Year 1 have been very lucky to have a visit from a keen gardener. She talked to us about how to grow plants and what sort of plants we may find in her garden. We then planted peas and cress to grow in the classroom. We also planted carrot seeds in sand to see if they would grow. 

Whole school Science assembly

 Each year group said what they enjoyed learning about in science and our visits from Science Oxford seem like a big success. To help promote our investigation skills and highlight different scientific vocabulary that the children  could use, we did a whole school experiment. Our Science Stars came to help do an experiment and we looked at 'Dancing Raisins.  The children thoroughly engaged in the assembly and were able to use various scientific words to explain what was happening. 

Science Oxford at OLOL

Key Stage One were very lucky to have Science Oxford come and visit us. We spent the morning learning about Carnivores, Omnivores and Herbivores. We got to wear masks and decide which animal lived in which habitat. We even made our own creatures and discussed what habitat they would live in.
